Stegan George Blues Bio
Name great slide guitar players and you must add a new name to the list - Stefan George.
Stefan began studying the blues guitar masters such as Mississippi John Hurt and Brownie Mc Ghee at age of eleven. He`s played in big bands and small, as well as solo, on both US coasts and in eight European countries since then.
He`s been a finalist in the Telluride Troubador and Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contests and a featured artist at SXSW in Austin, Texas.
A twenty year veteran of the Tucson music scene, Stef has received TAMMIE (Tucson Area Musician) awards for Best Songwriter, Best Solo Performer, Best Acoustic Guitarist, and Best Acoustic Ensemble. He`s opened shows and/or performed with such legends as: James Cotton, Rory Block, John Jackson, Honey Boy Edwards, Dave Van Ronk, Mose Allison, Elvin Bishop, Little Feat, Guy Davis, Eric Bibb, Norman Blake, Joe Louis Walker, and many more.
Stefan is the annual host and performer at the prestigious Kerrville Folk Fest Blues Project, a regular performer at the Tucson Bluesfest, has headlined at the Telluride Blues & Brews Fest, the Mesa Blues Blast, the Mammoth Lakes Bluesapalooza. He gives workshops and clinics on blues guitar all over the South West and has published an instructional manual on slide guitar technique.
Stefan toured Europe as lap steel guitarist for Rich Hopkins `Luminarios , with his own band THE CONRADS and did solo tours. When critics write about Stefan`s musicianship, the word “versatile” frequently appears.
The awards and tours show Stefan to be a dedicated, professional musician. In concert he´s a warm and engaging performer that can bring the audience under his spell of words and music, and leave them feeling better about the world we live in.
